Arthur J. Shafer (R) represents the seventh legislative district, which is comprised of the entire Town of Kirkwood and areas of the towns of Colesville, Conklin and Windsor.
Mr. Shafer previously served as Chairman of the County Legislature for three consecutive terms as well as Legislature Majority Leader from 2004-2005. He has been a legislative member for twelve terms, and formerly held the positions of Town of Kirkwood Councilman and Supervisor.
In addition to his legislative work, Art served as the 1999 President of the New York State Association of Counties. He also is the founder, and past President, of the Broome County Association of Towns and Villages.
Art's community involvement includes his work as a member and past President of the Kirkwood Lions Club, former President of the Kirkwood Fire company, and member of the Order of the Elks #852.
Art and his wife, Nita, reside at 64 Main Street in the Town of Kirkwood. They have three children and four grandchildren.
