Executive Fiala and Bicentennial Committee Outline 2006 Bicentennial Celebration
BINGHAMTON, NY - March 28th, 1806, with the stroke of a pen, Broome County was born. Fast forward 200 years and Broome County is now set to celebrate its Bicentennial.
On Friday, October 21st, at a noon news conference, in front of the historic Broome County Courthouse, Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala and members of her Bicentennial Committee announced the schedule for the 2006 Bicentennial Celebration.
In the spring of 2005, Executive Fiala, invited community and business leaders to participate in the planning and execution of a handful of events to commemorate the County's 200th birthday. The Committee began meeting in April of 2005.
"I was so happy that so many of our most talented community leaders agreed to be on the Bicentennial Committee and then I was extremely pleased at the amount of enthusiasm they brought to the table," said Executive Fiala. "We have an exciting lineup of events and now we just want to tell the community what they are and encourage the public to come out and help us celebrate!"
At Friday´s news conference, the winner of the Bicentennial Logo Contest was announced and his winning design was unveiled. The Bicentennial Calendar was also unveiled. The calendar which is still being printed will be available to the public in early November. Information on how it will be distributed will be released at a later date.
