Southern Tier Tellabration Arrives At The Broome County Public Library

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Susquehanna Storytellers, in partnership with the Broome County Public Library, is sponsoring a free Tellabration on Saturday, November 22, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court Street, Binghamton, NY. This year's Tellabration will feature free events for both Children and adults.

Tellabration is a worldwide celebration creating a network of storytelling enthusiasts across the planet. Bonding together in spirit, storytellers will promote their oral tradition for its entertainment and healing properties. Tellabration is commonly held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. This is the sixth year Susquehanna Storytellers, a local organization of yarn spinners, tall tale tellers and story lovers, have held a local Tellabration. This year Tellabration is FREE with opportunities for both children and adults to listen and learn!

Tellabration began in Connecticut in 1988, with storytelling at six locations across the state. The following year it spread to several other states. In 1990, it expanded nationwide with the assistance of the National Storytelling Network (NSN). A Japanese storyteller took the concept of Tellabration to Japan in 1995. By 1997, Tellabration was being held on every continent except Antarctica.

NSN serves as a facilitator to producers, a clearinghouse for information, and a publicist for Tellabration events worldwide. The Susquehanna Storytellers is one of a number of storytelling organizations throughout New York State that has been affiliated with the NSN in putting on Tellabration.

Members of the Susquehanna Storytellers, local professionals, amateurs and listeners, wish to invite anyone and everyone interested in hearing or telling stories to join in the Tellabration and or contact any member to learn more about storytelling.
