Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala tapped to serve on Board of Directors for the New York State Association of Counties

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala was tapped last week to serve on the Board of Directors of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC). NYSAC is a bi-partisan municipal association that represents the 62 counties of New York State, including the five boroughs of New York City. NYSAC’s mission is to represent, educate and advocate for Member Counties and the thousands of elected and appointed county officials who serve the public.

“NYSAC works hard to bring our counties together to collectively promote the county agenda in Albany and Washington,” said Fiala. “I am honored to serve on the board of this statewide organization that has so many distinguished county officials from across the state and I look forward to exchanging ideas with my colleagues that will make government more innovative, efficient and effective in addressing a wide variety of issues.”

Barbara J. Fiala became the 6th Executive of Broome County on January 1st, 2005. She is the first woman in county history to be elected County Executive. She was also the first woman ever elected to county-wide office when she was first elected County Clerk in November, 1997.

“NYSAC’s mission to advocate and educate on behalf of counties across the state depends on our ability to attract great county leaders. County Executive Fiala’s leadership will continue to help move NYSAC and our member counties forward in our efforts to fight mandates and reduce the burden on local taxpayers,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen J. Acquario.
