Community Volunteers Assist Local Travelers
New Airport Visitor Center Benefits Travelers
BINGHAMTON, NY - Strategically located next to baggage claim, the Visitors Center at the Greater Binghamton Airport offers travelers a convenient place to find information about the Greater Binghamton Area. Recently, services at the Visitors Center have been enhanced though the implementation of an Airport Ambassador Program.
“Since its opening in April of 2006, the Visitor Center has been highly active and an overall success,” said County Executive Barbara J. Fiala. “We are extremely thankful to the many volunteers who take time out of their day for to serve as greeters for our community.”
Staffed on a community volunteer basis during hours based on the BGM airline schedule, Airport Ambassadors are available to inbound and outbound travelers to answer questions about local attractions, area events, and give directions to local places of interest. In addition, Airport Ambassadors provide free maps and other brochures to travelers in need of area information. Ambassadors also help travelers in need of answers to general airport questions including baggage issues and scheduling matters.
One of the Ambassadors, Pat Cerretani is a former flight attendant who volunteers to be more involved with her community. “Having a passion for travel and the Binghamton Region, I am thrilled to volunteer at the Visitor Center,” said Cerretani. “It is very exciting to see just how far the Binghamton Airport has progressed over the past few years. It makes for a pleasant environment to assist the travelers who need my help.”
“We are pleased to be able to provide this outstanding service to the travelers using BGM,” said Carl Beardsley, Broome County Commissioner of Aviation. “Feedback about the program has been outstanding which is a tribute to the good work of Jennifer Lasher who coordinates volunteer activities and the entire group of Airport Ambassadors,” added Beardsley.
